West Ham expected to sign 31-year-old after finding breakthrough

West Ham were clearly disappointed during the January transfer window, after failing to secure a number of targets as plans of strengthening the squad were held back.

The Hammers’ targets included combative midfielder Gary Medel, who proved to be too expensive to sign after Besiktas’ decision to demand a fairly high asking price.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he was forced to withdraw from the move to sign the Chilean midfielder after previously being told that there would be no fee involved in the transfer deal.

However, there has been better news for the Hammers a month later, following reports that Medel will finally make his move to the London Stadium at the end of the season, based on a report by Turkish outlet Takvim.

Medel is claimed to be interested in leaving Besiktas in the summer with only a year now left on his current contract with the Turkish club.
