Rangers close to securing capture of 21-year-old winger

Liverpool starlet Ryan Kent is set to join Rangers on loan, according to reports.

Kent, the winger, endured a tough time last season having spent time with both Freiburg of the Bundesliga and Championship side Bristol City, but only managing 18 appearances in total.

The 21-year-old has been tracked by Blackburn this summer as Tony Mowbray hunts to improve Rovers’ squad, but the Scottish Sun say Rangers have won the race for Kent’s signature.

Steven Gerrard, the Rangers manager, knows Kent well from his time at Anfield, and he wishes to improve the Gers’ attacking options following some poor showings in their Europa League first qualifying round defeat of Shkupi.

Liverpool have certain demands of clubs that sign their players on loan, with Bristol City reportedly facing a £500,000 penalty for failing to sufficiently use Kent last season, but Gerrard is said to have ‘persuaded’ his former club that the youngster will play more than enough when he completes a switch to Ibrox.
