Celtic are reportedly tracking Uruguay midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta. The Cruzeiro playmaker made two appearances for his country at the World Cup .
He started Uruguay’s opening game against Egypt and also came off the bench in the Russia clash but couldn’t quite fit Óscar Tabárez’s 4-4-2 formation.
At 24, De Arrascaeta would suit Celtic ’s transfer profile, though. He almost joined Monaco in 2017 but couldn’t agree on a deal.
Now the Scottish champions are said to be monitoring the 24-year-old, who was scouted by Brendan Rodgers’ backroom staff at the Copa Libertadores earlier this year.
The player is contracted to Brazilian side Cruzeiro until 2021 and would command a sizeable transfer fee that would likely prove prohibitive for Celtic if they were indeed to go head-to-head with a Premier League side.
Hoops boss Rodgers is on the lookout for more attacking options after loanees Patrick Roberts and Charly Musonda returned to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
