‘As good as anyone’ – Sky Sports pundit raves over one Leeds man as C’ship battle predicted

Ex-Leeds United star and current Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has spoken highly of Marcelo Bielsa over the job he has done at the club, while predicting how they will fare next season after the agonizing failure in the 2018/19 campaign.

Leeds looked to be in a very good position to secure automatic promotion into the Premier League for next season but they somehow let that advantage slip against Derby County in a very closely contested play-off semi-final tie.

The Argentine has had a dramatic first season at the club and he will be hoping the issues which denied him Premier League promotion are fixed next year as he makes another attempt to bring Leeds back into the top flight.

Prutton, who is often featuted on Sky Sports’ broadcast of EFL football, has predicted that the relegated and promoted sides will have their say next term but Bielsa side can still manage to rectify their errors and clinch a promotion spot.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It will be another tough ask, regardless of how well they have done this season.

“You have got teams that are coming up in Luton, Barnsley and Charlton that will have momentum and a real confidence about them and then you have got the teams who have come down in Fulham, Cardiff and Huddersfield. For Leeds, there’s nothing in that division to be fearful about though we all know that it is such a competitive division.

“The reason Leeds are favourites is because of how well they did last year but I think the thing they have got to be wary of is that last season they were a surprise package and while I’m not saying people will have now worked them out, they might know what’s coming and forewarned is forearmed so it will be an even bigger ask to make sure they go up in an automatic spot.

“But with Bielsa in charge, you get the feeling that he is as good as anyone around and that he can take them up.”
