‘I decided to leave’: Winger explains why he has chosen Liverpool departure

Bobby Adekanye was brought to Liverpool in 2015 as a bright talent whom many fans at the club felt was good enough to break into the first team one day.

The Nigerian winger opted to leave Barcelona for a better shot at establishing a career as he moved to England to play under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Injuries have certainly been an issue for Adekanye during his time with the Premier League side, having spent several months on the sidelines over the past three years.

Earlier this year, it became apparent that the 20-year-old was seeking a new opportunity elsewhere, after failing to gain a spot in the Liverpool first team.

The young winger did train with the Liverpool senior squad a few times but after ultimately being left out on a consistent basis by Klopp, Adekanye has chosen to join Lazio.

And in his first interview since the Italian move, the Nigerian has explained his decision.

“At Liverpool I would go with the first team to the United States, but after that be with the Under-23s again”, Adekanye said, as quoted by Inside Futbol

“I did not like that, so I decided to leave. A number of clubs were interested in me, but I will not comment on it now. I don’t think it will be good for Lazio, all of that is in the past”
