‘Very unlike them, I’m stunned’: Pundit wows about deal secured by Tottenham

For several years, Tottenham Hotspur found it difficult to compete financially with the other top clubs in the Premier League.

But over the last couple of seasons, the club has signaled its intent to be a member of the elite tier in European football, opening a new stadium in the process.

Another thing which needed to be changed though, was the club’s inability to spend big in the transfer market, especially after going back-to-back transfer windows without signing a new player.

However, Spurs ended that barren run by splashing as much as £53.8m on the signing of Tanguy Ndombele, a deal which could rise to £62.8m based on add-ons, as per BBC.

It is without a doubt the most expensive transfer move ever agreed by the club and after the announcement of Ndombele’s arrival, Danny Mills has been left surprised.

The Sky Sports pundit has stated that the signing of the Frenchman is so out of character from Spurs.

“It’s big money for Tottenham. It’s incredible, very unlike them,” Mills told Football Insider.

“I’m stunned, really, as you don’t often see that. Ndombele will be a very good player for Tottenham. A superstar? To be a superstar in the Premier League, you have to be very special, like Patrick Vieira.

“There have been some exceptional players that have come to the Premier League from France, many of them to Arsenal, and it will be interesting to see if Ndombele can be one of those.

“Tottenham certainly need a new midfielder, and they have really pushed the boat out with this one.”
