Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has revealed his views on the future of Andre Gomes after last weekend’s action, and he has picked out a fact which some Everton supporters may be reluctant to accept.
Even though they had beaten Arsenal comprehensively the week before, Everton fell to a defeat away to Fulham who secured a very rare win at home.
Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel were scorers of fine goals in the second half of the game as the Toffees were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at Craven Cottage.
Gomes did receive some controversial reactions after his badly timed challenge on Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Merson gave his views on the Barcelona loanee’s future on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show.
“I like him. There is talk of Tottenham coming in for him for £30million. Again, this is what happens, you have a couple of good games and other teams look at the loan situation and think ‘Oh, he’s only on loan, I’ll take him’. He’s a Tottenham player,” he said
The Portuguese star has also been linked with a move to other Premier League clubs, and the decision will be Everton’s this summer over whether he stays at Goodison Park or not.
Merson continued: “He’s there (at Everton) now and if he keeps on getting the confidence, but he does get brought off now and again when he isn’t playing too well. He’s not one of them players who you field the team around. You don’t feel that he’s the star man.”
