Darren Bent has pointed out the fact that there is a chance of Liverpool pulling off a marquee deal to sign Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt this summer to send out a strong message to rival clubs.
Jurgen Klopp narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League crown last term but he received the praises he deserved after the Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Champions League.
The Liverpool boss will look to make another push for the English topflight title next season and if that is the case, some major new signings would have to be brought in before the summer transfer window ends.
Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt, the captain of last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, seems to be a player whom most of Europe’s biggest clubs have been tracking over the past year.
The Dutch youngster has proven that he has the potential to become a success elsewhere and Ajax are likely to demand a high amount to let go of his services.
Thus, ex-Premier League star Darren Bent has suggested that De Ligt could be Liverpool’s surprise addition.
“They may go out and surprise everybody and go and get De Ligt, Virgil’s Dutch team-mate,” Bent said, as per the Daily Star
“If they can manage to pull that one off and those two can play together, that would be brilliant.”
