Tottenham Hotspur have accomplished most of its goals as a club this season by doing enough to finish in the top four of the Premier League for another year, while securing a spot in the final of the Champions League, where they will be facing local foes Liverpool.
Daniel Levy might just have to spend in the transfer market to reassure Mauricio Pochettino about the club’s ambitions and also send out a message to the patient fans that the future is indeed meant to be a bright one.
Even though the club has run into the financial setback of building a new stadium, the fact that no players have been bought in a year could mean funds may be available.
That is where links with former Spurs star Gareth Bale become a realistic consideration as the Welshman faces another summer of uncertainty at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Real Madrid forward appears to be up for grabs and that is why former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that Spurs could complete a marquee deal to bring him back to England.
The Sky Sports pundit, who was briefly teammates with Bale at White Hart Lane, has suggested that Bale may well secure a high-profile return to the club where he achieved much of his fame before his record-breaking deal to join Madrid in 2013.
“It’ll be massive to get someone of his calibre,” Bent said, as quoted by HITC
“To win what he has won – he’ll be such a fantastic statement and signing for the Premier League.
“Where would he end up? I don’t know. I have got a sneaky suspicion he could end up back at Spurs. With the new stadium, imagine that! Not signed anyone [for last two windows] and then splashed that big signing coming back. It would be tremendous.”
