Graeme Murty has heaped praise on Celtic star Mikey Johnston on Rangers’ YouTube channel.
Murty watched his Rangers reserve side defeat the Hoops 2-0 at Firhill and inch closer to winning the league title.
Even though there were several players on the pitch with enough experience, Celtic’s youth team had no answers as Glen Middleton managed to score two goals in the clash.
After racking up three goals in the league for Celtic’s first team this campaign, Johnston has clearly shown glimpses of the quality he has as a player.
Following the clash between the two sides this week, Murty went on to reveal that he was in awe of the talent and ability which the 19-year-old displayed on the day.
He told Rangers’ YouTube channel: “When they came back with ‘we have to be tighter, we have to be a bit more composed in final execution of the pass’ and they were right. We needed to lock down there left side, because Mikey Johnston is a good player.
“We needed to be better and be a little more brave. They came up with that. The players had the answers.”
Johnston remains a very promising talent and it will be interesting to see how he develops as times goes on, especially after receiving praise from former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers during the ex-Liverpool manager’s time at the club.
Some of the other big clubs around Europe might make their own attempt to snap up the youngster but it might be in his best interest to hold off a move of that sort for a year or two.
